After an early night, and a bit of a lie in I was feeling a bit better this morning. I was torn between going to the Deutsches Museum or having an arty day. Having somewhat OD on techy stuff, the art won out.
I decided to head to the Pinokothek Der Modern. There are two other Pinokothek museums in Munich; the old and the new. The former is old masters, and the latter bridges the gap between the two. It was only 2EUR more for a combined ticket so I went for that.
I ended up spending most of the day in the two open museums, and the Brandhorts Collection,which was also included in the ticket.
There were several sub museums in Der Modern. The first was a design museum:
Then it was onto an exhibition about 3d printed furniture (and other things) made from mycelium, algae and seaweed.
The audio-guide for this was very cool; it’s a Pi Zero in a 3d printed case. I think it was using bluetooth beacons to work out what you’re near (though it was a bit over sensivitve and would jump to another exhibit if you changed the orientation of the device sometimes.
Then it was onto (I think) the permannt collection:
The final part of the museum was the architecture museum. This had an exhibition on farming; the high tech Dutch greenhouses, some rather grim stuff on cattle farming, and various other things. It was very well presented and interesting
Then it was onto Museum Brandhorst. This was a smaller collection, but the Brandhorst’s had clearly had a lot of money. There was a room full of Andy Warhols, for example.
Then it was onto the Altes museum. This had a very impressive collection of old masters, as well as some of the collection from the Neues museum. By this point I was a bit arted out, but it was very impressive, and in a lovely building.
After all that art, I went for a wander around the Englisher Garden. This was very pleasant; the National Trust mini backpack I’d borrowed fitted right in.
Then it was a tram back to the station, stopping off in Lidl for some food to eat on the sleeper. The compartment I’m in this time has 6 seats, and 6 beds, so that’s a relief. Currently just two of us, though it’ll fill up en route according to the conductor. In an amazing coincidence my cabin-made has been to EMF and is off to a nix conference in Krakow.
