After the morning’s history, I decided to head to the seaside. The guide book had mentioned the costal resort of Sopot along the coast to the NW of Gdansk. There looked to be beaches on the map a little closer, so I took the tram to Brzezno
The beach was lovely, part of a wide bay (with Sopot to the west, and the (less lovely) docks far off to the east. The beach was sandy, and the water clear. There was a small pier nearby. The weather was great – low 20s I’d guess

I had a brief swim. It was probably about 14 I’d guess. I’ll resist the urge to make a joke about it being Baltic.
I was a bit apprehensive about a dip, as there were lots of moon jellyfish. Other people were swimming though, and reading online it sounded like they were unlikely to sting. All was fine.

After a few hours on the beach, I got the tram back into town for some regular sightseeing. It really is a very attractive city

I’ve enjoyed my stay in Gdansk; the Hanseatic brick architecture is very attractive in the evening light, and it’s got a nice feel to the place. I leave tomorrow morning for (checks notes) Poznan.
