The sleeper arrived on time at 0715, so I was in Krakow early.\u00a0 The weather was awful when I arrived; heavy drizzle.\u00a0 I’d signed up for a walking tour of Nowa Huta, which was a planned city built in the communist era for the adjacent steelworks.\u00a0 Before that I’d got a couple of hours to kill, which I spent wandering around and getting breakfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a short tram ride to the starting point of the walk.\u00a0 The guide was excellent, and talked about Poland’s history under communism.\u00a0 The neighbourhood itself is apparently quite desirable now – it’s well connected to the centre and is quite peaceful and green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tour ended up at a church in Nowa Huta<\/a>, which was finally finished in the 70’s, after struggles with the communist authorities.  It was a very striking design inside and out<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a quick nap (I didn’t sleep that well on the train – it stopped quite a few times in the night for passengers), I went into town for a quick look at the castle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
